What is phishing?

Phishing is a common attack. Someone copies a real site, payment page, or mobile app and tries to steal bank details, passwords, crypto-wallet funds, or identity information. The bait is usually a fake email, a text message, a misleading ad, or a link in a social network or messenger.

Phishing is after private data:

  • Card and bank-account details
  • Usernames and passwords
  • Identity information
  • Two-factor codes and one-time passwords

Common methods:

  • Fake pages that look like a real bank or a known service
  • Fake emails that ask for private information
  • Text messages with an attractive offer and a link to a fake site or app
  • Malicious apps shared in messengers and social networks
These messages are written to make the request feel urgent or rewarding, so the private information is handed over without a second look.

The attacker sends a fake email or message. The link opens a page that looks like a real bank or a known service. Information entered there goes to the attacker.

Typical phishing:

  • Texts promising a prize or free mobile data
  • Fake bank payment pages that collect card details
  • Malicious apps shared in social networks and messengers
  • Fake emails with urgent warnings, such as “your account will be blocked”

Look for these signs:
  • Shortened or unusual links
  • Spelling and grammar mistakes
  • Bait such as “you have won a prize” or “you have an unpaid toll”
  • Claims about a subsidy payment, or that you were removed from a payment list
  • Messages pretending to be the judiciary and asking you to view a case
  • A personal phone number instead of an official sender such as adliran
  • A request for personal information, a card password, or a confirmation code
  • Threats such as “your account will be blocked if you do not pay”

Look for these signs:
  • A sender domain that only looks real, such as support@google-support.com instead of @google.com
  • Spelling and grammar mistakes
  • A request for private information
  • Shortened or unusual links
  • Urgent threats pushing you to enter private information
  • Do not open links you were not expecting

The Android app uses the checks below. 🚀
  • Checks new SMS messages by sender, text, and links.
  • Compares links in SMS messages with the phishing database and warns you when one matches.
  • Warns you when a suspicious app is installed.
  • Can scan apps that are already installed.
  • Shows short security tips on the home screen.
  • Checks links opened in the browser and warns you about suspicious pages.
  • Shows a green confirmation on genuine Shaparak payment pages.
  • Warns you immediately about a suspicious or misleading site.
  • Lets people report new scams, and those reports improve the database.
  • Updates the database as new threats appear.
  • Works offline, at the moment the message, link, or app is seen.

The browser extension does two things:
  • Checks the address of payment gateways
  • Shows a green mark when the payment gateway looks genuine

These habits help:
  • Learn the current tricks, and warn people around you
  • Look at the site carefully before entering information
  • Install mobile apps only from official stores
  • Pay attention to warnings from the browser and other security tools
  • Do not enter information on a site you do not know
  • Delete suspicious texts and emails
  • Do not open unexpected links
  • Use a browser extension such as MotmaenBash
  • Use the MotmaenBash Android app
